Tell Me Lies

I also love to read real books you can hold in your hands too! I just finished reading an awesome "who-dunnit" by Jennifer Cruisie called Tell Me Lies, in paperback. It was something I just couldn't put down! From the cute little candy hearts on the front cover to the rambunctious main characters, Maddie & C.L., this was a romantic-comedy-mystery I couldn't wait to devour! There was enough character building at the beginning to keep me interested from their childhood where bruiser C.L. was bemused by a then 8 year old Maddie. He'd been fighting & running from the teachers when he stumbled on Maddie "the good girl", crying from the news of her father's death. His heart went out to her knowing that he too found this young life twisted with grownups leaving them faster than ice cream melting on a hot summer's day. Fast forward to now, in their 30-somethings & Maddie's married & has a little 8 year old girl of her own, & C.L. divorced for about a decade finds himself coming back to Frog Point to do a little research for his ex-wife who was remarried to a man that was about to make an investment. Some things never change where her best friend still lives on the same street & they spend hours gossiping on the phone & yelling at their kids & their husbands own a business together. Only to find that C.L.'s had a smoldering ember in his heart for Maddie & her old high school  football hero sweetheart turned construction salesman husband isn't going to be able to snuff out. There is plenty to keep you on the edge of your seat & cracking up while doing so. Jennifer Cruisie has an odd way of making a little fender-bender look suspicious, 1000's of unearned dollars that happen to show up in Maddie's safety deposit box look like just a place to stash "mad money", to sneaking through the woods & catching your husband cheating on you, is just another way of knowing she's gotta get out of Frog Point. Her
mother thinks that she's lost her mind all in about a weeks time & has her "loony grandma's" genes because Maddie realizes her husband's been missing for about 3-4 days & no one knows where he is but isn't really looking for him either & she thinks she killed him with a handful of pain killers that spilled on the floor that she cleaned up after her husband hit her & she picks them up & puts them in an almost empty wine bottle that Maddie thought no one would ever drink from. But why were there a couple of passports in the safety deposit box, too, when she went to cash in a couple of CD's when her checking account gets overdrafted? There's a lot going on in this lil Frog Point community that seems odd. Why a few people have come by Maddie's house lately when they can't get in touch with her husband down at his office saying he owes them a lot of money. Maddie's heart starts melting when they start heating up together on a hot summer's day!
